Why is feature standardization important before applying Lasso and Ridge regression?

Feature standardization removes the influence of differing feature scales, ensuring all predictors are treated equally. Without standardization, features with larger numeric ranges can yield smaller coefficients/slopes and lighter regularization penalties, while smaller-scale features receive disproportionately larger penalties.
